Kuma’s Review of Tomb Raider (2013)

Greetings gamers and welcome to what I call a hybrid review where I give you both a video review and a written one for things that I may put aside. It seems 2013 is year of the reboots and so far they are coming out strong with well written dialogue and amazing gameplay, but my views are in the video below so please enjoy!

Gameplay:

It is the best in the series in my opinion and has the character automatically react to situations when coming across a hostile area gives you enough time to worry about your other features and controls. The instincts feature is a great addition since you will be hunting and retrieving a lot of equipment throughout this island hazard. The game physics are very well implemented without any hiccups with the animation. I give the people in the motion capture department kudos for that.

Combat:

It was always a problem being limited to your guns in classic games, but they fully utilize more of Lara’s skills in melee and weapon combat. The mixture of the two gives you more of a personal feel that you need to do whatever it takes to survive any situation. There will be times where quick time events or Q.T.E sequences will happen, so I would advise you to pay attention to each cut-scene. You never know when a Q.T.E situation might come up.

Upgrades:

The key here is to perform many duties so you can enhance all of Lara’s skill. You will have to hunt, gather and salvage to gain the experience to tackle on many of Yamatai’s hazards, especially some of the ancient spirits that inhabit the island. I mean it would not be a Tomb Raider game without some sort of demonic presence or weird entity. Finding the right parts for your weapons will be a bit tasking, but it is part of the adventure and you will be satisfied with the results.

Enemy A.I.

I am not going to say that they are intelligent, but they are ruthless to a fault and there were many times when the enemy had me surrounded and I had to do my best to get away. This is one of the most brutal scenarios that Lara has ever been in and when you fail, you seriously fail hard. I would suggest being patient and using certain distractions to take on more than one enemy. Also conserve your main ammo and stick with the bow until you come up to big bosses that need that extra push to take down!

Multi-player:

I am not a fan of it, but it is something to do after you are done. It was not needed in my opinion and I know a few people that would agree. In that section you get the classic TDM (Team Death Match), Free For All, and two new modes called Rescue and Cry for Help. There were easy ways to upgrade your character by picking up salvage around the map, but it is a distraction when people are trying to kill you. I did enjoy Rescue, but that is about it. The single player mode will satisfy you enough.

Thoughts from Fans:

Jaime Montanez: I got it for xbox. Gotta tell you this game is awesome! I had some reservations about it mainly because its a reboot of sorts but crystal dynamics hit this one out the park. Little things catch my interest in this title like the fact that Lara can use her other hand when holding a torch, that they didnt feel like they had to dumb it down as far as controls. This game is awesome!

Dezjia Dolor admin of Facebook.com/RealWomenofCallofDutyVery: great game, shows her early skills and how she became a.great explorer she also went through alot of loss and pain now as she got older she doesnt show her weaknesses.

Brandon A Nelson: One of the best games I’ve played in a while and it actually lived up to the hype! Lol Smooth gameplay, good graphics, good story.

Final Thought:

If you have not picked it up by now, then I would advise you to do so, because Lara is back and with an awesome upgrade. It is definitely worth the BUY! and at $65.31 you get what you paid for. It is a day and a half game depending on what you are doing, but definitely worth the buy and as I said in the video I hope this is the beginning of more amazing titles. Thank you all for checking out my review and I hope you get your copy which is available for PC, Ps3 and Xbox 360, also from what I understand it is on sale on Steam. Stay frosty gamers!
